Professional
Background
Don is a 1979
graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. He received his
Bachelor of Arts degree summa cum laude from Xavier University in 1976.
Engaged in civil litigation defense practice in 1979, Don joined the
firm
in 1987 when he opened the Toledo office for the firm then known as
Baran, Piper, Tarkowsky & Fitzgerald.
Don's focus of practice
since he joined the firm has continued to be defense in civil
litigation. He represents various Ohio political subdivisions and other
entities, including a volunteer fire district in upstate New
York. A regular part of Don's practice also includes defending
corporations and individuals in product and personal injury cases as
well as representing insurance companies in declaratory judgement
litigation involving issues of coverage, priority of coverage,
and
underinsured or uninsured motorist (UM) situations to name a few.
Married since 1981, Don and
his wife Ann are the proud parents of two children -- Adrianne and
Andrew. In addition to his family, Don is engaged in the never-ending
project of finishing a log cabin that began as a shell in 1990 in
Michigan. Since Ann is also an alumna of the University of Michigan,
with an M.B.A. degree, the family is very pro-Michigan Wolverine and
has greatly enjoyed the University of Michigan/Ohio State University
football clashes.
